Jennifer Harper

A graduate of Syracuse University, Jennifer Harper writes the daily Inside the Beltway column and provides additional coverage of breaking national news, plus long-term trends in politics, media issues, public opinion, popular culture, Hollywood foibles and “eureka” moments in health and science.

She has been a frequent broadcast commentator on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, C-SPAN, Voice of America, Citadel Broadcasting, Talk Radio Network and other news organizations. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., Ms. Harper grew up in Texas and arrived in Washington in time for Watergate -- and has been tracking the political and media landscape ever since.

She is an active member of the American Federation of TV Radio Artists and Screen Actors Guild. She has won 14 journalism awards during her years at The Washington Times.

GOYA gets support from thousands of NYC bodegas, GoFundMe cause raises $315,000

When Goya Foods CEO Robert Unanue publicly voiced his support for President Trump , there were immediate calls for a boycott of the company's products from such lawmaker as Rep. Joe E. Collins III grew up in South-Central Los Angeles in a neighborhood where crime literally struck home the day a drive-by shooting left bullet holes in both the windows and the family sofa. Inner city life did not faze the young man, who later joined the Navy, became a fighter-jet mechanic, saw combat in Operation Iraqi Freedom, served as a Navy recruiter, and was certified as both a financial planner and a mental health counselor. The White House has not given up on a third summit with North Korea. The unprecedented first meeting between President Trump and leader Kim Jong-un on June 12, 2018, was covered by 3,000 journalists from 40 countries -- and it yielded hope that the isolated nation would join the world neighborhood. The second meeting eight months later was so-so. Now there's talk that a third rendezvous could be in the making, which could reboot the process and possibly provide a productive boost for Mr. Trump's reelection campaign. Published July 16, 2020

Biden’s lead over Trump drops 7 points in a week: Rasmussen poll

In previous weeks, many news organizations were reporting that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden held a commanding lead over President Trump which ran as high as 14%. But the presidential race has tightened up considerably in just a matter of days, according to one pollster. Published July 15, 2020

GoFundMe page for Goya Foods raises $100,000 in 24 hours

A GoFundMe page titled "Buy GOYA, Support Trump and Feed the Hungry" was created Sunday to support Goya Foods -- with a goal of raising $10,000 to buy products from the company to be donated to food banks in the nation's capital. Published July 13, 2020

It is always a pleasure to check up on "Bo Snerdley" — known to 15.5 million radio listeners as the executive producer of Rush Limbaugh's daily talk show. His real name is James Golden, and last year he founded a well-organized and forward-thinking organization to support Black conservatives and Republicans. His effort includes the website MAGA.black, plus New Journey, a political action committee that so far has endorsed or contributed to 15 candidates in nine states. Published July 12, 2020

#BuyGoya: James Woods, Mark Levin among many opposing Goya Foods boycott

The list of high-profile celebrities, politicians and news media icons who support Goya Foods is growing. The New Jersey-based, Hispanic-owned company has now been targeted for a national boycott by organizers who were triggered by CEO Robert Unanue and his public support of President Trump. Analysts have wondered whether Joseph R. Biden's sudden lurch to the left would affect his appeal to voters. MoveOn.org has already proclaimed the likely Democratic nominee is the most progressive candidate in Democratic Party history. Now Sen. Bernard Sanders has proclaimed Mr. Biden to be "the most progressive president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt." Published July 9, 2020

Biden’s lead over Trump drops by 6 percentage points to 4%: Hill-HarrisX Poll

A new Hill-HarrisX general election poll has some encouraging news for President Trump. Joe Biden's lead over Mr. Trump has dropped in recent weeks, compared to a similar survey conducted in June. "The poll found Biden's lead has narrowed from last month's bump, where Trump was trailing the former Vice President by 10 percentage points," the poll analysis said. Published July 9, 2020
