Jennifer Harper

A graduate of Syracuse University, Jennifer Harper writes the daily Inside the Beltway column and provides additional coverage of breaking national news, plus long-term trends in politics, media issues, public opinion, popular culture, Hollywood foibles and “eureka” moments in health and science.

She has been a frequent broadcast commentator on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, C-SPAN, Voice of America, Citadel Broadcasting, Talk Radio Network and other news organizations. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., Ms. Harper grew up in Texas and arrived in Washington in time for Watergate -- and has been tracking the political and media landscape ever since.

She is an active member of the American Federation of TV Radio Artists and Screen Actors Guild. She has won 14 journalism awards during her years at The Washington Times.

GOP encounters the encounters in border crisis

The Republican National Committee continues to track the ongoing arrival of unauthorized visitors to the U.S. The committee tells Inside the Beltway that 189,372 illegal immigrants were encountered attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in March alone, marking the 37th straight month of President Biden's tenure in office that such encounters have exceeded 150,000. Deadline looms for press looking to cover Republican National Convention

The Republican National Committee has officially issued a reminder to journalists interested in applying for media credentials for the national convention, which kicks off in Milwaukee on July 15. That's a mere 105 days away and approaching quicker than most media folks realize. The absolute deadline for those journalists to obtain credentials also is fast approaching -- April 12. ‘Double haters’ of Trump, Biden reappear in electoral calculus

This convenient little phrase has captured the imagination of the press at the moment. It refers to a new classification of U.S. voters who are not particularly happy with either President Biden or former President Donald Trump. The phrase appears to have emerged during the 2016 election but now seems to be percolating once again in the press after a recent New York Times revisited the topic on March 6.
