Jennifer Harper

A graduate of Syracuse University, Jennifer Harper writes the daily Inside the Beltway column and provides additional coverage of breaking national news, plus long-term trends in politics, media issues, public opinion, popular culture, Hollywood foibles and “eureka” moments in health and science.

She has been a frequent broadcast commentator on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, C-SPAN, Voice of America, Citadel Broadcasting, Talk Radio Network and other news organizations. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., Ms. Harper grew up in Texas and arrived in Washington in time for Watergate -- and has been tracking the political and media landscape ever since.

She is an active member of the American Federation of TV Radio Artists and Screen Actors Guild. She has won 14 journalism awards during her years at The Washington Times.

U.S. population now has highest share of immigrants in its history

"The Census Bureau released today the 2023 American Community Survey (ACS), revealing a foreign-born or immigrant population (both legal and illegal) of 47.83 million in July of 2023 -- an increase of 1.65 million compared to the 2022 ACS results," advises the Center for Immigration Studies in a report released Thursday. "The foreign-born population size, along with the year-over-year growth, marks the largest the survey has ever recorded. Federal debt being added in trillions, with no end in sight

In the first 11 months of fiscal 2024, the U.S. borrowed $1.9 trillion, including $381 billion in August alone, according to the latest Monthly Budget Review from the Congressional Budget Office. This phenomenon has not been overlooked by Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan educational group focused on fiscal policy. Political books looking to grab a younger audience

Publishers are not overlooking politics as a way to appeal to a certain age group. An author and an artist have rushed to write and illustrate a new children's book, set to be released by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers on Oct. 29 -- just a week before election day. Trump reelection team recalls the pre-Biden economy
