PICKET: Zimmerman-Martin case led by political narrative

NBC Miami posted a news package profiling George Zimmerman, the man who claimed to local police he shot 17 year old Trayvon Martin in self-defense on February 26, within a gated community in Sanford, Florida. While bits and pieces of the case continue to be released, the Justice Department has been called upon to look into the shooting further.

President Barack Obama slammed former President Rutherford B. Hayes, a Republican, on Thursday when excoriating his critics for dismissing alternative energy sources. He compared them to President hayes, who he wrongly believed dismissed the invention of the telephone.

PICKET: Rep. Turner considering run for senate?

Congressman Bob Turner, New York Republican, is being courted by GOP state party officials to run against Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, New York Democrat, this year. Senator Gillibrand was appointed to her seat in 2009 by former New York Governor David Paterson when Hillary Clinton vacated the seat. Gillibrand was later elected to the seat in 2010, in order to finish off Clinton's term. Sen. Gillibrand must now run for her first six year term in office.

KOVACS & VERNUCCIO: Raising the tipped minimum wage does more harm than good

Politicians and interest groups playing the gender card to push their agendas is nothing new. But recently, it seems to be getting harder, as they are grasping at straws. Rep. Donna F. Edwards (D-Md.) recently introduced legislation to increase the tipped minimum wage—the base a restaurant must pay its workers before the employee receives cash tips—claiming that restaurant workers’ wages, especially female worker’s wages, have been stagnant for years. Yet a quick look at the facts shows their claims do not stand up to scrutiny.
