The Washington Nationals signed Odalis Perez to a nonguaranteed minor league contract Thursday, bringing the veteran left-hander back after a surprisingly strong 2008.

Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in 10 days. Am I the only one who feels like that's too soon? Probably not, because there are still so many unsigned, big-name free agents out there and the Nationals have so many unresolved issues.

Dukes makes payment, avoids jail

Nationals outfielder Elijah Dukes avoided jail time today by paying more than $40,000 in overdue child support and alimony to his estranged wife, just minutes before the 5 p.m. deadline imposed by a Tampa judge last week.
