Just heard from a source close to Chad Cordero that the Nationals watched their former closer throw several times this spring, but never made him a formal offer.

The Nationals just announced they have signed right-hander Julian Tavarez to a non-guaranteed minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league camp.

Cabrera's big hit (and more)

The big story of the day here was Daniel Cabrera--and not because of his pitching. The 6-foot-9 right-hander, he of the 14-for-14 track record in Baltimore (that's 14 strikeouts, not 14 hits), actually dropped a single into right field in the third inning against the Braves today.

Thoughts on Zimmermann

We won't talk to Jordan Zimmermann for a little while yet--I'm told he's a workout nut who insists on riding a stationary bike and lifting weights after he pitches--so for now, you'll have to make do with my impressions of his outing today:
