Jennifer Harper

A graduate of Syracuse University, Jennifer Harper writes the daily Inside the Beltway column and provides additional coverage of breaking national news, plus long-term trends in politics, media issues, public opinion, popular culture, Hollywood foibles and “eureka” moments in health and science.

She has been a frequent broadcast commentator on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, C-SPAN, Voice of America, Citadel Broadcasting, Talk Radio Network and other news organizations. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., Ms. Harper grew up in Texas and arrived in Washington in time for Watergate -- and has been tracking the political and media landscape ever since.

She is an active member of the American Federation of TV Radio Artists and Screen Actors Guild. She has won 14 journalism awards during her years at The Washington Times.

Border Patrol takes on counterfeit COVID vaccination cards from China

Alabama steps up for Trump

Former President Donald Trump staged and attended 302 of his signature gatherings while he was on the 2016 campaign trail, according to a count by ABC News published Nov. 7, 2016. The research revealed that the largest rally during that campaign era was attended by 30,000 fans and took place in Mobile, Alabama. Mr. Trump is returning to that very state on Aug. 21 for a follow-up encounter. Published August 12, 2021

Americans rally around calls to #FlyYourFlag

Frank Miele, a columnist for RealClearPolitics, recently noticed that an "extraordinary" number of houses in his town of Kalispell, Montana, had American flags displayed on their front porches. Life goes on. While the media grows ever shriller and as arguing over political topics continues in the nation's capital, the National Rifle Association is quietly planning to mark its 150th anniversary during an annual meeting in Houston, set for Sept. 3-5. Published August 1, 2021

Biden border policy still a mystery

The White House started work on an immigration policy plan after Vice President Kamala Harris returned from her visit to the southern U.S. border in late June. "We will build on what works," Ms. Harris said at the time. The plan was released Thursday under the name -- and drum roll please -- "Root Causes Strategy," which emphasized five ways to remedy the incoming push of migrants seeking asylum, relief, citizenship and much more. Pandemic, politics ‘dampens’ the Olympics

Biden flaws become a major story

Polls and surveys come and go very quickly in the media marketplace. Some get news coverage, some don't; the press can be very selective at times. A new ABC News/Ipsos poll that revealed dwindling approval of President Biden is one of those surveys which got the coverage, even among news organizations that tend to shield Democratic officials.
