Jennifer Harper

A graduate of Syracuse University, Jennifer Harper writes the daily Inside the Beltway column and provides additional coverage of breaking national news, plus long-term trends in politics, media issues, public opinion, popular culture, Hollywood foibles and “eureka” moments in health and science.

She has been a frequent broadcast commentator on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, C-SPAN, Voice of America, Citadel Broadcasting, Talk Radio Network and other news organizations. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., Ms. Harper grew up in Texas and arrived in Washington in time for Watergate -- and has been tracking the political and media landscape ever since.

She is an active member of the American Federation of TV Radio Artists and Screen Actors Guild. She has won 14 journalism awards during her years at The Washington Times.

For the second year in a row, Mr. Trump will skip the White House Correspondent's Dinner on Saturday, and instead join around 10,000 of his favorite people at a patriotic campaign-style rally in a Michigan sports arena. Two networks will be there to cover the event live. Published April 28, 2018

Democrats have concocted some fancy footwork when it comes to the upcoming Senate vote on CIA Director Mike Pompeo's nomination for secretary of state later this week. Inside the Beltway: The GOP has big plans - and $172 million in the war chest

So much for all those news media claims that the Republican Party is drifting around the political realm with no compelling message and dwindling support. Once again, the Republican National Committee has broken another fundraising record, according to chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel, who says the party raised $13.9 million in March and now has a bodacious $171.6 million overall in the 2017-2018 cycle. The Grand Old Party's midterm election plans are grand, and going swimmingly. Published April 22, 2018

Just a reminder that the America's heavy lifting and hard work continues — far from the endless squawking and media hubbub in the nation's capital. The incredible B-52 just keeps on keeping on, and has shattered old performance records, according to a new Air Force report. Keep in mind that various models of Boeing's B-52 have been in service since 1955. The B-52 H model, which is currently in use, first went into service 57 years ago. Published April 17, 2018

Three-quarters of Republicans ‘absolutely certain’ to vote in the midterms: Poll

"How likely are you to vote in the congressional election in 2018?" asks a Washington Post/ABC News poll released Monday. Such questions are of acute interest among those who either laud or condemn the idea that a "blue wave" of Democrats will be elected in November, retake Congress and possibly attempt to impeach President Trump. Inside the Beltway: The blitz begins: James Comey’s moment of truth

After weeks of hubbub, James B. Comey the author has emerged. His book "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership" is in stores Tuesday. His broadcast debut on ABC drew 9.8 million viewers on Sunday night but was still bested by the Academy of Country Music Awards on rival CBS, which attracted 11.5 million. Amused media critics pointed out that adult film actress Stormy Daniels' recent appearance on CBS' "60 Minutes" garnered an audience of 22 million. Some observers are predictably unimpressed.
