Inside the Beltway: Harvard students demand campus ‘diversity’ extend to conservatives

Prepare for an ivy-covered cultural moment. A new editorial in the Harvard Crimson — the student publication of Harvard University — now calls for the campus to be more accepting of conservative students following an extensive 18-month "diversity and inclusion" study by the university's administration which found that only a "startling" 1.5 percent of the faculty identified as conservative while 83.2 percent are liberal. Rolling Thunder roars through politics, still riding for POWs, MIAs and veterans

Thirty one years ago, Vietnam vets Artie Muller and Ray Manzo agreed they were plenty disturbed by news reports that suggested Americans were still being held as prisoners of war. They also agreed it was time to draw attention to the issue, and to "never forget" POWs, those who never made it home and fellow veterans who were struggling to adjust to civilian life. What's really happening between the U.S. and North Korea? The art of the deal may be in progress. President Trump's 1987 book may hold some major insight. (Ballantine Books)

Inside the Beltway: Art of the deal, North Korea edition

A diplomatic breakthrough between the United States and North Korea has stalled for the time being, prompting alarm, scorn and glee among President Trump's critics. But wait. Seasoned observers know that diplomacy is a work in progress, full of tweaks and maneuvers. Deals often follow the same trajectory. Is it time to consult Mr. Trump's 1987 book "The Art of the Deal" to figure out which strategic tactic the president could be using here? Maybe. Published May 24, 2018

Inside the Beltway: A Mattis moment: The warrior ethos

"Your mission begins," Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis advised 983 graduating cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy commencement Wednesday, urging them to take ownership of the future of the Air Force itself, to leave complacency out of the equation, lead by example and "embrace and enjoy the beauty of the unexpected." Three decades and counting … for POW/MIA

It is an image of focus, determination and strength. Here stands Artie Muller, his gaze steady, his denim vest bearing an American flag and a POW emblem. This is a photo from another age, from the early days of Rolling Thunder. The world has changed since then — but not Artie Muller, an Army vet who co-founded the patriotic group over three decades ago to draw attention to the cause of prisoners of war and those who never made it home. He's still got the iron will to honor the original mission, and inspire others to do the same. Published May 23, 2018
