MILLER: The assault on weapons

Gun grabbers wasted no time exploiting Friday's shooting in Aurora, Colo., by calling for more restrictive firearm laws. Their liberal agenda is off target because, with U.S. gun ownership at its highest level ever, the public sees crime is way down. This blows a hole in the left's argument, but it doesn't stop it. MILLER: Dispelling gun myths

There is evil in the world, and the face of it was seen Monday when James Holmes made his first court appearance since he allegedly killed 12 innocent people at a showing of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colo. As he sat with demonic-looking dyed-orange hair and bizarre facial expressions, it was hard to conceive of any law that could thwart such a maniac intent on mass murder. Published July 23, 2012

MILLER: Obama’s jam-packed schedule

President Obama gave up his day job working for the American people so he could have more time to campaign for himself. To fit in all the fundraisers and stump speeches, he's set aside things like meeting with his jobs council and working with Congress. His priorities say a lot about his character. MILLER: GOP: Get off the couch

With the presidential campaigns entrenched in hand-to-hand fighting, Democrats are looking for a way to capture the voters' attention. They think they've found the edge with new policies designed to increase government dependency. The latest gambit would relieve benefit recipients of any personal responsibility. MILLER: A scarlet letter for guns

Lawmakers in Prince George’s County, Md. hate guns so much they want to brand anyone convicted of violating one of the state’s convoluted firearm statutes. Stab someone with a knife, and the county won’t care or take notice of you after you serve your time. Published July 18, 2012

MILLER: Obama’s double-tax rap

The overbearing federal government is doing everything it can to thwart private enterprise. Washington imposes the industrialized world's highest tax on corporate earnings. The United States also stands alone in punishing companies that bring overseas income back home with a double tax. Published July 17, 2012

MILLER: Obama’s defense maneuver

President Obama is willing to put our national defense at risk for a win on his campaign pledge of higher taxes. He's shown no interest in leading an effort to handle the sequester, the $1.2 trillion in automatic reductions that will hit Jan. 2. Published July 16, 2012

MILLER: Democratic stalkers

Democrats are a little too obsessed with class warfare. Their latest stunt has party operatives surreptitiously following and videotaping Republican members of Congress and their families in their homes. Published July 12, 2012

MILLER: Obama’s tax hypocrisy

President Obama promised never to raise taxes on the middle class, but he already has. The Supreme Court called the money Americans will owe the Internal Revenue Service if they fail to buy government-mandated health insurance in Obamacare a "tax." Published July 11, 2012

MILLER: Obama’s high-tax pledge

President Obama the class warrior is dashing the hopes of the unemployed on his quest for re-election. In the wake of Friday's disappointing Labor Department announcement that a measly 80,000 jobs were created last month, Mr. Obama said he wants to punish a million job creators with higher taxes. MILLER: D.C. recoils from gun prosecutions

The nation's capital treats gun owners like criminals. Even after a Supreme Court smackdown in 2008, Washington still has the country's most stringent gun-control laws. The city's anti-firearm ordinances are so convoluted and beyond the norm that average Americans can find themselves in big trouble for doing something that is entirely legal in almost every state. MILLER: Gunning for D.C.

The District's refusal to recognize the full meaning of the Second Amendment may not last much longer. A Supreme Court decision in 2008 forced Washington to allow residents to keep arms, and now Congress is pressuring the city to recognize the next part of that constitutional mandate: the right to bear them. MILLER: Rand Paul vs. the District

A freshman senator single-handedly stopped Democrats from pushing through a bill expanding the District's authority last week. Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, thought it wasn't right to further empower the city unless it committed to a respect for life, the right to work and the Second Amendment. Published July 4, 2012

MILLER: Beg, borrow and plead

Barack Obama is getting desperate. He's fallen far behind Mitt Romney in fundraising, an unexpected lapse in his grand, billion-dollar re-election plan. The Supreme Court's decision Thursday to leave Obamacare on the books means the president has to explain how the biggest accomplishment of his first term was a massive tax increase. MILLER: Getting rid of Obamacare

The Supreme Court may have the final say on legal issues, but the public will ultimately decide Obamacare's fate. Polls show the American people want this big-government statute off the books, so their only hope now is to take the issue to the ballot box. Published June 28, 2012

MILLER: If Democrats ran the House

November's battle for control of the White House may grab the most public attention, but the House of Representatives is arguably the more vital race. Republican control of the lower chamber since 2011 has slowed spending in Washington and blocked much of the big-government agenda. Losing the House would have significant consequences. MILLER: Shopping with Barack

The Obama campaign is selling celebrity. This is evident from President Obama's online re-election store, which offers 288 products covered in his name. By comparison, Mitt Romney has a modest 35 items in his shop. Campaign tchotchkes say a lot about the candidate. Published June 26, 2012

MILLER: Speaker Pelosi redux

Speaker John A. Boehner puts the odds of Democrats winning back the House at 1 in 3. While the Ohio Republican may be making things look a bit worse than they are in order to encourage fundraising and turnout on Election Day, he's still admitting the GOP doesn't have a lock and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi could retake the speaker's gavel after just two years on the back bench. MILLER: Backdoor gun ban

Gun grabbers need to be sneaky to accomplish their goals. Their latest trick is to convince anti-gun states to mandate that handguns be microstamp-ready. That means the weapon's firing pin is redesigned to imprint a code on the primer so that, in theory, it will give law enforcement the ability to identify a specific gun from shell casings left at a crime scene. Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist "is hilarious," says an acquaintance. "If you've only seen him in little sound bites talking about tax policy, you're missing out." Mr. Norquist, who writes a lot of his own jokes, will compete Wednesday night at the D.C. Improv in Northwest for the title of "the Funniest Celebrity in Washington." (Andrew Harnik/The Washington Times)

MILLER: Demonizing Grover

The left wants America to fear Grover Norquist. The mild-mannered anti-tax activist has angered Democrats by getting in the way of their plans to expand the size and scope of government. Liberals want to drive a wedge between him and Republican legislators in the hopes they'll renege on their pledge not to raise taxes. Published June 20, 2012
