FILE - In this Sept. 17, 2016, file photo, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, right, and then-assistant coach Zach Smith, left, gesture from the sidelines during an NCAA college football game against Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. What has transpired over the last three weeks at Ohio State should be a lesson to all coaches. Your football program is not a family. Urban Meyer treated Zach Smith like family, and it almost cost one of the most accomplished coaches in college football his job. (AP Photo/Sue Ogrocki, File) **FILE**

Urban Meyer deserves more than a wrist slap

Ohio State's punishment of Meyer isn't a wrist slap; it's a love tap. It's a wink-and-nod. It's the administration telling us that Meyer's pristine won-loss record is more important than his smudge-filled ethics record. Published August 27, 2018

Stephen Strasburg curse isn’t real, right

My friend, the Yankees fan, says the Nationals are cursed for sitting Stephen Strasburg six years ago. But that's crazy talk, right? Right? Published August 22, 2018

SNYDER: Amateur athletes have leverage

How will you react when an amateur team -- perhaps your favorite or alma mater - decides to sit out rather than suit up? What will you think about the players who choose to take a stand rather than take the field? Published August 20, 2018

DJ Durkin owes answers on player’s death

At a certain point, imploring players to be tough and "suck it up" can morph into complete indifference and disregard for players' well-being. Published August 13, 2018

SNYDER: Aces deserve benefit of a doubt

If I had purchased tickets to Friday's Mystics-Aces game, I think I'd prefer a refund and tickets to a future game, as opposed to watching a team that spent 25 of the past 30 hours at airports or on a plane. Published August 8, 2018

FILE - In this April 14, 2018, file photo, Ohio Setate coach Urban Meyer watches the NCAA college football team's spring game in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State has placed Meyer on paid administrative leave while it investigates claims that his wife knew about allegations of abuse against an assistant coach years before he was fired last week. (AP Photo/Jay LaPrete, File)

Urban Meyer discovers indifference not an option

Considering the Ohio State coach's 180-degree turn on domestic abuse allegations against a former assistant, we don't know if his next utterance will be a half-truth or a whole lie. Published August 6, 2018

Trea Turner, Josh Hader must help those still in the dark

Athletes like Turner and Hader shouldn't wait until ancient social media posts are unearthed before declaring which side they're on. Instead being defined by old tweets, join the fight against real-time affronts all around us. Published August 1, 2018

Head, heart disagree on Nationals

The heart says don't give up on the Nationals' core. Resist the urge to be sellers as the MLB trade deadline approaches. If you must go down, do so fighting in possibly your last season with Bryce Harper. The head says ... I don't know. Published July 30, 2018

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, right, runs a drill past quarterback Lamar Jackson during an NFL football practice at the team's headquarters in Owings Mills, Md., Tuesday, June 12, 2018. (AP Photo/Patrick Semansky) **FILE**

Joe Flacco gives Ravens time to groom Lamar Jackson

Joe Flacco is better than the dreadful Tom Savage who played ahead of Deshaun Watson and, at this point, Watson is better than Jackson. No matter the ardent objections of Flacco's numerous critics, there's no need for Baltimore to rush a transition to the Lamar Jackson Era. Published July 25, 2018

Terrell Owens in a class by himself even as a Hall of Famer

Terrell Owens is one of the greatest NFL receivers ever, period. He's also one of the strangest NFL players ever, period. The latter has no bearing on the former, or at least it shouldn't. But Owens continually proves he's in a class by himself, which will be the case during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Aug. 4. Published July 18, 2018

Nationals may finally have to scratch and claw for division title

Washington was in third place when it headed to Tampa following Sunday's win against Philadelphia, three games behind the first-place Braves and Phillies. It's an unusual spot at an unusual juncture; June 24 marks the latest Washington has been third since 2013. We're simply not used to the Nats scratching and clawing for a chance to reside atop the division. This is awesome! Published June 25, 2018

NBA shows less is more with draft, unlike NFL counterpart

A couple of months ago, the NFL unleashed an unprecedented amount of broadcast coverage for its annual draft, flooding the airwaves of ESPN, NFL Network, Fox and ABC, while airing every round on network TV for the first time. Thank goodness the NBA doesn't take the same approach. The league's draft begins -- and ends -- on Thursday. Published June 20, 2018
