Inside the Beltway: Deportations down 42% under ‘deporter in chief’

Those who once called President Obama the "deporter in chief" may want to rethink the title. Deportations, including removal of criminals, "continue to plummet under Obama," according to a new Federation for American Immigration Reform analysis that reports deportations of illegal immigrants are at the lowest levels since 2006 -- down 42 percent in the past three years alone. Inside the Beltway: Ben Carson: America ‘closer’ to biblical end of days

Interesting questions, interesting answers. Sharyl Attkisson -- host of "Full Measure," a new investigative political talk show that debuted last week -- has offered some fact-driven verve and refreshing originality. She interviewed Republican front-runner Donald Trump on the first program. It was Ben Carson's turn on Sunday. Published October 11, 2015

The historic SS United States could soon become scrap metal without some serious donations. (SSUSC)

Ocean liner in distress, soon to be scrapped: The SS United States sends out an SOS

Despite valiant fundraising efforts and an imaginative public outreach, the caretakers of what has been called "America's flag ship" say that unless they raise adequate money for her upkeep, the historic SS United States must be sold for scrap rather than find a permanent home, and potential commercial redevelopment. Chaos! The GOP-bashing press gets stuck on a single word following McCarthy revelations

"Chaos." That was the operative term among journalists and news organizations who got in some serious Republican bashing following House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy's straightforward announcement that he would not seek the role of House Speaker. News coverage immediately swung into gleeful and dramatic mode on Thursday, appearing to suggest the GOP lawmakers were in a state of near riot below the mighty dome of the U.S. Capitol itself. The headlines were very telling. Published October 8, 2015

The Media Research Center will stage its annual Dishonors Awards, targeting the liberal media, on Thursday evening. (MRC)

Inside the Beltway: Bodacious party lampoons liberal media

Yes, it is a bodacious and merry occasion: The Media Research Center stages its annual Dishonors Awards Gala on Thursday night, so large that it can only be housed in the behemoth National Building Museum, a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol. What draws this bustling conservative crowd? It is a rare moment for them to get back at the liberal media and cite those who are the bossiest, most inane, most extreme. Published October 7, 2015

Inside the Beltway: Ben Carson’s has a call to arms: Read the Constitution then defend it

"Many ungrateful people like to denigrate our nation. They act as if America were the source of evil in the world and a nation to be escaped, but the large number of people risking life and limb to enter this nation illegally tells a different story," writes Ben Carson in his new book, "A More Perfect Union: What We the People Can Do to Reclaim Our Constitutional Liberties." The Republican presidential hopeful begins a significant book tour Friday with a sold-out event at the National Press Club; he will visit 38 cities through the first week of November. Inside the Beltway: Carly Fiorina: The insider’s outsider

Hillary Rodham Clinton herself attempted to soak in a little outsider glory during a town hall meeting in New Hampshire on Monday, advising her audience, "Who could be more of an outsider than a woman president?" It's a remark she's made more than once on the campaign trail. Published October 5, 2015

Kevin McCarthy would be ‘least tenured’ House Speaker of modern era says political professor

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is considered by many to be a likely choice when the vote for House Speaker takes place on Thursday. But there's some historic baggage. "The 19 speakers elected since the turn of the 20th Century averaged nearly 24 years of service in the chamber before their first day as speaker -- nearly three times that of McCarthy," says Eric Ostermeier, a political professor with the University of Minnesota who tracks the trends of yore. Inside the Beltway: Republican voters opt for new ideas over experience in 2016 candidates

GOP voters prefer outsider candidates in the White House race: The penchant for a presidential hopeful with "new ideas and a different approach has surged -- with virtually all of the increase coming among Republican and Republican-leaning voters," notes a Pew Research Center poll. "Today, by more than two to one (65 percent to 29 percent), Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters say it is more important that a candidate have new ideas than experience and a proven record. Just five months ago, GOP voters valued experience and a proven record over new ideas, 57 percent to 36 percent." Published October 4, 2015

Sharyl Attkisson debuts Donald Trump on the debut of "Full Measure," a new investigative news program from Sinclair Broadcasting.

Inside the Beltway: Sharyl Attkisson makes emphatic step into political talk show kingdom

It's a new, emphatic and straightforward presence in the chatty Sunday talk show realm: The investigators have arrived. "Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson" debuted Sunday, with programming that is handsomely produced and bolstered with ambitious content - including their own immigration poll and original video footage and interviews. The show intends to focus on investigative journalism and authentic accountability rather than sound bites and talking points, its creators say. Published October 1, 2015
