Inside the Beltway: The NRA takes a stand against national anthem protests

Professional athletes who choose not to stand for the national anthem have affected the nation, their act gaining traction beyond the sports realm and drawing continued criticism from President Trump. "Taking a knee" and shunning the anthem has dominated news coverage, inspired polls, sparked argument and shaped a whole prism of political discourse for days. It's complicated. President Trump has suggested that National Football League players should be fired if they refuse to stand for the national anthem before major games. Republicans agree with Mr. Trump according to a Cato Institute poll released on Monday. It found that 65 percent of Republicans and 62 percent of conservatives say the players should be let go for "taking a knee" — an act, the players say, meant to draw attention to police brutality and racism. Inside the Beltway: An answer to radical feminists, conservative mothers stage a ‘March for America’

These ladies are poised to stand up for traditional values and the power of unapologetic motherhood — intended as push back, they say, to the "radical feminist" agenda. Welcome to the "Mom's March for America," set for Saturday at a major arena in Omaha, Nebraska — with a speakers roster that includes former Gov. Sarah Palin and Candy Carson, wife of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson. Their public message has not been heard much these days. Published September 21, 2017

Inside the Beltway: Media to-do list: Nitpick, distort, exaggerate, omit, lie

"Since the left and complicit journalists in the mainstream media cannot defeat President Trump on the issues or legitimate grounds such as dishonesty, they have resorted to a superficial collection of tactics," points out Rachel Alexander, editor of the Intellectual Conservative and a Townhall columnist. Many voters wish for a viable third political party. Two appear to be emerging at once — driven by disgust with establishment Republicans and Democrats alike. In a poll released Sunday, NBC News and The Wall Street Journal have identified "true Trump voters" who voted for President Trump, not as a vote against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton but because they support him in no uncertain terms. Inside the Beltway: A new warning about the ‘Deep State’

Let us recall "shadow government" and "Deep State" — two terms that riveted political observers and journalists earlier this year. Remember? Both terms — along with variants such as "shadow White House" and "shadow presidency" — were bandied about in the media with relish. Dramatic coverage suggested that former members of the Obama administration or entrenched federal employees were still in place, ready to wield power from within the bureaucracy. A potential hazard to the Trump administration lurked, amplified by "fake" news, skewed polls and negative press narratives. Published September 13, 2017
