Inside the Beltway: Aggressive media primed for Kavanaugh hearings

They're likely ready with foregone conclusions and dire warnings. Big media appears poised to offer a volley of unfriendly coverage at Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. But wait. This practice has been going on since the evening of July 9, when President Trump nominated Judge Kavanaugh for Supreme Court justice, prompting multiple journalists to portray the federal judge as a pro-life partisan who could change the highest court in the land, and the nation itself. Carnival gourmet: State fair food veering away from deep-fried Twinkies and meat-on-a-stick

State fairs have long been famous for carnival cuisines that feature deep-fried Twinkies, meat on a stick, cheese curds, turkey legs and funnel cakes. That cuisine is evolving. Many officials have discovered that distinctive local fair food with a gourmet touch provides an effective and lucrative way to showcase and market their respective states. Inside the Beltway: Over a dozen determined Democrats eye 2020

Democrats may be all charged up about the 2020 presidential election, but it's still a mystery who they would favor on the ballot. A new Zogby Analytics poll of likely Democratic voters found that almost a third of the respondents -- 31 percent -- simply couldn't name who they would back in the White House bout. Inside the Beltway: Fox News marks 200 consecutive months as No. 1

Fox News Channel still does everything right. Viewers, it seems, simply can't get enough of the coverage. Fox News hit a major milestone in August, marking 200 consecutive months as the most watched cable news network of all, this according to Nielsen Media Research. That means Fox News has been top dog for 16 years and six months — with a prime time audience averaging 2.3 million viewers, compared to 1.8 million for MSNBC and 1 million for CNN. Inside the Beltway: Red wave: The political peril of irking Trump voters

Establishment Democrats don't like to bandy about the "I-word." They caution that talk of impeaching President Trump will rile up Mr. Trump's very loyal supporters — who will flock to the polls on Nov. 6 and launch a red wave to be reckoned with. Curbing impeachment chatter could prove a challenge for these Democrats, particularly when billionaire activist Tom Steyer is spending $110 million to counter Mr. Trump through a public interest group called Need to Impeach, plus vigorous voter outreach and a 30-city national tour. Inside the Beltway: Liberals are hard-wired to protest says Gallup poll

Vigorous protest marches were the norm during the 1960s. These days, the compunction to get out on the street and make a big noise over select issues is almost as prevalent among certain groups — mainly Democrats, liberals, the educated elite and women. Published August 26, 2018

Inside the Beltway: Tom Steyer leads the impeachment outcry

The jubilant news media has gone impeachment crazy, the non-stop, highly speculative coverage fueled by evolving legal developments in President Trump's world. One progressive billionaire, meanwhile, is leading his own charge. Tom Steyer - who has already founded a political interest group called Need to Impeach - is donating $110 million to the midterm elections, hoping to ensure Democrats win back the House and impeach Mr. Trump. Ironically, establishment Democrats fear such talk will only infuriate loyal Trump voters who will turn out in droves on Nov. 6 to protect their hero. Published August 23, 2018
