SNYDER: Thankfully, some athletes have been willing to address issues of racism
It's perfectly fine for players to take stands on certain issues and illnesses, as long it's not the issue and illness of racism? Sorry, but that reasoning fails the sniff test. Published December 10, 2014
SNYDER: UAB’s decision to cut football program can have cascading effect
Regardless of the route UAB took in killing off its football program last week, the destination undoubtedly will be considered by other Football Bowl Subdivision schools facing financial challenges. Published December 8, 2014
SNYDER: How long will Jay Gruden have to pull Redskins reversal?
The franchise has been mired in less-than-mediocrity for the better part of two decades and changing such a culture isn't a snap. The undertaking has been more difficult than Gruden imagined. Published December 7, 2014
SNYDER: Battling Bryce Harper, Scott Boras makes Nationals look petty
Perhaps if I was a billionaire real estate developer who owned the Washington Nationals, the team's stance against Bryce Harper would make sense. But I'm not and it doesn't. Published December 3, 2014
SNYDER: Redskins’ troubles run far deeper than who’s starting at quarterback
Like a jalopy that should be junked but remains on the road, different parts of this team keep breaking down. Changing the starter might've led to a smooth ride against Indy if not for the massive leaks that sprung up and allowed Andrew Luck to disassemble the secondary in a 49-27 rout. Published December 1, 2014
SNYDER: Jay Gruden’s RG3 decision should leave everyone thankful
Gruden's decision will spare RG3 and viewers a lot of pain. The quarterback won't suffer more cartoonish violence behind a leaky offensive line; fans won't endure more cringe-worthy plays when positive yardage was there for the taking. Published November 26, 2014
SNYDER: Wizards have opening in D.C. sporting scene as Redskins wallow
The Washington Wizards would never wish misfortune upon their football counterparts. But the D.C. hoopsters certainly don't mind reaping benefits in a market that's weary of gridiron futility — and weary of dissecting it, digesting it and discussing it. Published November 24, 2014
SNYDER: On Jay Gruden’s message, RG3’s descent, Roger Goodell’s moralizing and more
Once again, it's time to check off some items on my "TIDU List" — Things I Don't Understand: Published November 19, 2014
SNYDER: Legalized sports gambling in U.S. an inevitable reality check
NBA commissioner Adam Silver says it's time to end the modern-day equivalent of prohibition and allow widespread, legalized gambling on pro sports. There appears to be a certain inevitability to Silver's suggestion. The pro sports leagues are now partners — silent or otherwise — in every gambling operation. Published November 17, 2014
SNYDER: Redskins’ faults laid bare as Bucs seize opportunity for rare win
No one told Tampa Bay that Washington was supposed to win. The Bucs figured it was their turn after blowing fourth-quarter leads in three consecutive games and five times overall this season. Published November 16, 2014
SNYDER: Kobe Bryant haters misfire with shooting criticism
His days of winning titles in Los Angeles are over, but that's about the only thing that has changed. He's still adding to his Hall of Fame resume, and even records that appear embarrassing at first glance can reveal an athlete's true greatness. Published November 12, 2014
SNYDER: Wizards’ early mixing and matching off bench is a positive sign
The rotation remains a work in progress aside from Otto Porter Jr.'s entrenchment, but it has taken a different shape over the last couple of games. Reserve forward Drew Gooden III and wing Glen Rice Jr. have been supplanted by Kris Humphries and Rasual Butler, respectively. Published November 10, 2014
SNYDER: Time for NFL to reinstate Adrian Peterson, move on to the rest
The league is still sore from all the body blows absorbed this year, rightfully so. But it shouldn't let previous bad decisions lead to another one. Published November 5, 2014
SNYDER: Redskins’ polling numbers poor as they head to bye week
Instead of steaming into the off week with momentum from three straight wins, Washington limps in with a 3-6 record. This marks the third consecutive season the team has fallen to that mark, which makes it a runaway winner for "Most Unlikely 2012 Playoff Appearance Sandwiched by Terrible Records." SNYDER: Sorry, Lamarr Houston and Stephen Tulloch, we will laugh at your pain
Not to make light of an athlete's injury or misfortune, but tearing your ACL while celebrating a sack is fairly hilarious. Especially when it happens to one player five weeks after it happened to another, both times with eerily similar dance moves that conclude with the players wincing and going down as if shot. Published October 29, 2014
SNYDER: Otto Porter, Glen Rice could really make Wizards pop
Regardless of initial projections, both players find themselves in the same position entering this season. They're trying to go from afterthoughts to the forefront in coach Randy Wittman's mind when he considers his second unit. Published October 27, 2014
SNYDER: Robert Griffin III should follow Kevin Durant’s lead, practice patience in return
Griffin needs to take a page from Durant's book and tape it to the bathroom mirror. "I'm taking my time with this," the Thunder star said. "I'm blessed that it happened early in the season so I can get past it and hopefully by December I'll be ready to play." Published October 22, 2014
SNYDER: With Redskins’ quarterbacks, choose your own adventure
No matter the results after Jay Gruden names a starter for Monday night, his team will continue to seek long-term answers to its pressing questions at football's most important position. Pickings are slim. Published October 20, 2014
SNYDER: Shaken Kirk Cousins bows out, perhaps for good
We still refer to Cousins as a "young" quarterback, because he's in his third season and has yet to reach double figures in starts. But NFL types don't need much time before designating players as starter material or career backup. Published October 19, 2014
SNYDER: In Jameis Winston case and beyond, when to suspend a dicey question for schools, teams
We've faced these questions all season, in college football and the NFL: When, why and how long should players be suspended? What about the presumption of innocence? Are accusations alone good enough? Not necessarily. Published October 15, 2014
