Bulldog 'Chesty XIV' becomes an official U.S. Marine

He wears his uniform beautifully. And he's got undeniable charisma. That would be Pfc. Chesty XIV, a young English bulldog who made his first official appearance as a U.S. Marine when he received his eagle, globe and anchor emblems in a ceremony at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. on Monday.

George Washington finally gets his books back from Scotland

A reminder that the nation's capital remains a historic region, as opposed to a welter of tweeting pundits and grimacing politicians. Alex Salmond, the first minister of Scotland, will soon arrive on these shores to return a pair of George Washington's books long held by the National Library of Scotland.

Flight attendants in a duel with TSA over pocketknives

Not everyone is happy with the Transportation Safety Administration's reversal of restrictions on airline passengers carrying small pocket knives. Representatives of the Association of Flight Attendants will pass out leaflets in eight major airports Monday "to directly enlist passengers in the fight to keep knives out of the aircraft cabin," they say.
