So you live in DC huh?
Whenever I hear someone say they live in DC and they really live in one of the suburbs, it bothers me. They can claim all that is positive about our city from our sports teams, rich culture, entertainment, nightlife, and economic abundance. Yet they look at those who live here as though we were from some war zone or post apocalyptic land.

Neighborhood Safety Zones: Good or Bad?
In response to a rash of shootings, The Metropolitan Police Department announced that it will restrict motor vehicle access to some 5th District neighborhoods. By deploying them, I feel we are erecting more barriers, which isolate entire communities and have the potential to diminish the self-esteem of those that live in them.
Obama's victory is proof of racial healing
Obama's victory shows that America is growing and evolving beyond centuries of being preoccupied with race and the sacred words of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution are ringing truer than ever.
Our fears and our communities
Fearing differences fosters mistrust that limits the entire potential of a community. It circumscribes our mobility and contact with those that we consider different. This prevents us from experiencing the richness and diversity of other traditions, cultures and unique individuals.
