Hill to DL, Perez activated
As expected, the Nationals have placed Shawn Hill on the 15-day DL with a strained right forearm. They've also activated Odalis Perez off the 15-day DL, and Perez will start tomorrow night against the Orioles, his first appearance since left shoulder tendinitis sidelined him back on June 3.
Treasure trove of documents and letters found in MD attic

Prospect Q&A - John Ely, White Sox
As the Chicago White Sox slumped toward their eventual 70-92 record last summer, the team realized it would need an influx of good young pitching to compete in the A.L. Central going forward and took pitchers with their first six picks in last June's MLB draft. With three major league pitches in his repertoire and outstanding command, third-rounder John Ely looks like he'll be ready to help the big league club sooner rather than later. By Jay LeBlanc.

Jesus Flores lifted the Nats to victory with a walk-off RBI single, while the O's fell at Wrigley despite Jay Payton's two jacks. David Wright had two longballs of his own to lift the Mets over the Mariners, and Joba Chamberlain picked up his first win as a starter for the pinstripers. All that and more in today's Morning Report. By Jay LeBlanc.

Test Abe for steroids!
Is anyone else getting sick of watching Abe dominate his way through every Presidents Race? He just stormed from the back of the pack to win by at least 15 lengths, aided by Teddy chasing after a giant penguin.
Lo Duca OK
Just wanted to post an update on something I didn't have room for in the notebook: Paul Lo Duca is doing fine a day after leaving in the second inning with light-headedness. He is not in the lineup tonight, but is available to pinch hit.
Qualifying offers update
The Caps have submitted qualifying offers for pending restricted free agents Mike Green, Eric Fehr, Brooks Laich, Shaone Morrisonn and Boyd Gordon.
Brooks Laich update
I talked to Brooks Laich's agent, Roland Thompson, who said despite a lot of discussion and some progress, there is no deal yet with the Caps.
If a soccer ball is kicked and no one sees it....
Germany won 3-2, but the television feed was in and out for much of the second half.
Stop red eye now!
There's no excuse for leaving "red eye" in photos anymore. This isn't as big as stopping the abuses in Darfur, but a social movement may be needed.
