Lily Eskelsen García

Lily Eskelsen García (née Pace; born May 1, 1955) is an American teacher and labor union leader. As president of the 2.29 million-member National Education Association, she led the largest union in the United States from 2014 to 2020. In November 2020, following the United States presidential election, the New York Times, Washington Post, and Fox News quickly reported Eskelsen García as a potential candidate for President-elect Joe Biden’s Secretary of Education. She is reported to have a close working relationship with incoming First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, fellow NEA member and educator.
