Sails is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the drowning of a ninth-grader in a Detroit-area high school pool. Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith has said Sails was assigned to monitor a remedial swim class at East Detroit High School in November when students told him 14-year-old KeAir Swift was having trouble. Smith said Sails initially told students Swift was fooling around. He then changed clothing in a locker room before jumping into the pool.
