OPINION:
Two fine recent op-eds by Tim Murtaugh and Joseph Curl point out the media’s involvement in covering up President Biden’s lagging mental acuity, but they omit the truly important question: Who has been governing the U.S. (“Cover-up of Biden’s cognitive decline will be his legacy” and “Media, not Trump, told ‘lie of the year,’” web, Jan. 2)?
Why has no one in the media yet questioned who has been deciding policy and activities for the past nearly four years, now that so many recognize Mr. Biden’s cognitive decline?
For example, few now disagree that the withdrawal from Afghanistan was an unmitigated disaster. The move not only diminished the international standing of the United States, but also led to the nefarious activities of Russia, Iran and Iranian proxies, as well as increased threats from China.
My personal belief is that the decision to leave Afghanistan was the last one freely made by Mr. Biden. Since then, who or what has been in control? Once again, the media as a whole have been derelict by not investigating this matter.
As a reader, it is difficult to understand how anyone claiming to be a journalist could have ignored the situation for so long. Politics be darned; reporters should do their jobs and search out the real news.
