City officials in New Orleans are preparing for an onslaught of raucous Philadelphia fans coming for the Feb. 9 Super Bowl between the Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. With nearly two weeks until the game, the New Orleans Police Department is already warning Eagles diehards: Don’t climb any poles.
Philadelphia fans often flock to street posts and light poles after their teams win big games, a way of celebrating the occasion for the City of Brotherly Love.
“Regarding climbing street light poles, that is not only illegal (trespassing) but is unsafe, as many of the street light poles in the French Quarter are quite old,” New Orleans police spokesman Barry Fletcher told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “Climbing on them risks toppling the light pole.”
The celebrations have occasionally resulted in severe injuries. An 18-year-old was placed on life support after falling from a pole after the Eagles’ dominant win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Philadelphia’s ABC affiliate reported.
Fletcher didn’t say whether New Orleans officials plan to grease the city’s poles ahead of the Super Bowl.
