OPINION:
There is no statute of limitations on desertion. Still, they want to name a ship after a man who dishonored draft induction notices and committed fraud to enlist in the Army Reserves by signing the contract and swearing the oath of enlistment — and then never reporting to his duty station (“Biden says planned U.S. Navy carriers will be named for Clinton, Bush,” Web, Jan. 13).
In 1969, Bill Clinton sent a letter to Col. Eugene Holmes, then head of the Reserve Officer Training Program at the University of Arkansas, expressing his disgust for all things military.
As a draft delinquent, reserve enlistee and deserter, by November 1969 Bill Clinton was not eligible for the draft lottery.
