Washington Commanders guard Sam Cosmi tore his ACL and will not play in next week’s NFC Championship game, coach Dan Quinn said Sunday.

“That’s a big deal, the ballplayer and the man,” Quinn said of Cosmi.

Cosmi left Saturday’s win over the Detroit Lions with a knee injury after he was rolled up on during the second quarter. Backup Trent Scott filled in for the remainder of the game.

The 2021 second-round pick from Texas signed a four-year, $74 million extension in September after a breakout season in 2023. Depending on his recovery, Cosmi could miss the start of next season.

With Cosmi sidelined, the Commanders will likely call on Scott next weekend to start the NFC Championship game with a Super Bowl appearance on the line. Washington will face the winner of Sunday’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams.

Backup guard Chris Paul and reserve center Michael Deiter will also be available as options in the interior of the offensive line.
