OPINION:
“‘Santo Mayorkas’: DHS secretary’s final tally tops $3 billion in extra vacation time for employees” (Web, Jan. 16) highlights additional atrocious management of the Department of Homeland Security by now former Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
With the U.S. government running more than $36 trillion in debt, a single agency giving out $3 billion of extra administrative leave should be considered criminal. One DHS employee quoted in the story says there “[w]ould be no better way to demoralize us” than for the Trump administration to rescind the newly given vacation days. This is outrageous. Let them leave. In fact, show them the door. There are thousands of U.S. citizens that would probably jump at the chance to go to work at DHS under the new management of former South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.
In addition, each employee who would quit because additional leave was withdrawn should be given a letter to their next prospective employer stating exactly why they left.
It is amazing how much the Biden administration cost the U.S. taxpayer — and how little we have gotten for the outrageous spend. Thank goodness it is Inauguration Day.
