OPINION:
The newly signed ceasefire is being celebrated in the Middle East by massive numbers of Palestinians perversely rewarding their own barbarism by passing out trays of sweets to celebrate the murder of Israelis (“Israel’s security Cabinet recommends approval of ceasefire in Gaza; deal now goes to full Cabinet,” Web, Jan. 17).
There will be no permanent peace as long as Hamas survives as a political and military entity endlessly financed by international jizya payments.
In the United States, Nerdeen Kiswani, the leader of the anti-Israel organization Within Our Lifetime, wrote that “we will continue the struggle for complete liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea. Since the beginning, we have made clear that a ceasefire is only a first step in the struggle for true justice against the imperialist zionist and U.S. war machine.”
Does anyone actually expect that this ceasefire will hold up any better than the one Hamas violated when it bestially attacked Israeli kibbutzim on Oct. 7, 2023?
The pressure exerted to bring about this new “ceasefire” suggests that peace and security for Israel is not what the world really wants.
