The “mud” slung at Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth by the Democrats during this week’s confirmation hearing was a disgrace (“Pete Hegseth still on track to lead Defense Department after confirmation hearing,” Web, Jan. 14).

Sen. Mazie Hirono, Hawaii Democrat, wouldn’t even allow the man to speak, let alone respond to her diatribes. And of course Sen. Tim Kaine, Virginia Democrat, attacked Hegseth’s character — but had no problem with his buddy Bill Clinton’s sexual harassment and indecent exposure indiscretions.

Regretfully, Sens. Warren, Duckworth, Gillibrand and Slotkin all yelled and screamed in their best imitation of a custodial
police interrogation session at a Washington precinct.

To add insult to injury, these Democrats refused to address anything related to the various and substantive national security threats facing the United States today including, but not limited to:

-Deterioration of the U.S. Navy relative to the number of operational ships

-China’s expansion throughout Latin America, Africa, the Indo-Pacific and the South China Sea, as well as China’s threatening presence in Cuba
-The Chinese Communist Party’s overt aggression toward Taiwan
-Russia’s war in Ukraine

As usual, the Democrats love slinging the mud when there’s nothing substantive for them to challenge. What else is new from these people?
