“Coach Prime” could be coming to Dallas.

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones spoke with Colorado coach and Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders about their coaching vacancy on Monday evening, according to multiple reports.

Jones confirmed on Monday morning that the Cowboys would not re-sign coach Mike McCarthy, who led the team to a 49-35 record in five seasons. Dallas, which missed the playoffs after losing quarterback Dak Prescott for the season due to a hamstring injury, began its search for a new coach immediately.

The Cowboys have not announced an official interview with Sanders, whose contract with Colorado expires in 2027, or any other candidates.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders told ESPN on Monday. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love [Boulder, Colorado,] and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”

Sanders, who won a Super Bowl during his five-season stint with the Cowboys in the 1990s, coached the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record in 2024. He signed a five-year, $29.5 million deal in 2022 after leading Jackson State to a 27-6 record across three seasons.
