OPINION:
As President-elect Donald Trump will soon be getting “big pencil,” I humbly suggest another item for his list of things to do to make America great again.
He should take the taxpayer money currently being used to subsidize wealthier Americans’ purchase of electric cars and use it to upgrade the water, sewage and solid waste treatment systems and infrastructure throughout the country. (Don’t worry, Mr. Musk, folks will still be buying your very cool electric cars; now they’ll just do it without the guilt of taking subsidies.)
Mr. Trump, this would get you more bang for your environmental buck, as you’d be putting taxpayer money toward upgrading national infrastructure rather than buying electric cars made with Chinese materials. It would help all Americans.
There are several other benefits to this action: Mostly U.S.-manufactured materials would be used for the water system upgrades, and fewer folks would need to buy bottled water. Most importantly, we would all have cleaner water.
Make America’s water supply great again.
