Rapper Kendrick Lamar followed up on bringing home five Grammys last week with a stunning Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday night.
Lamar’s performance, which included cameos from actor Samuel L. Jackson, retired tennis star Serena Williams and singer SZA, impressed rap fans during a blowout game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.
“That was so incredible,” Bleacher Report’s Molly Morrison wrote on X.
“This rules,” NFL analyst Arif Hasan agreed.
The setlist culminated with the diss track “Not Like Us,” where Lamar barreled down the camera to address his rival, fellow rapper Drake, and encouraged the New Orleans audience to sing along.
They did, for the most part.
But the performance didn’t sit as well with less engaged viewers who haven’t followed the yearlong rap feud between the two.
“NFL, I promise you it’s ok to pick halftime entertainment that appeals to the masses,” one fan wrote on X.
The show, which Lamar promised would feature a degree of storytelling, included a slew of backup dancers in red, white and blue who performed precise choreography while arranged like an American flag.
