OPINION:
America is finally reclaiming control of its borders, protecting citizens and combating the scourge of gang violence and human trafficking. President Trump has done more to secure the border in just one week than President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris managed in four years.
The Biden-Harris administration remained committed to keeping the border open. Their failed policies left American communities vulnerable to criminal networks and fueled a tragic human trafficking crisis harming countless children. In stark contrast, Mr. Trump has prioritized border security from Day 1, proving his unwavering commitment to keeping Americans safe.
One of the greatest threats comes from international gangs such as Tren de Aragua. This Venezuelan-based criminal network has spread violence across Latin America and is now threatening U.S. communities through drug trafficking, human trafficking and violent crimes. The Trump administration’s policies, targeting and deporting gang members such as those of Tren de Aragua, protect Hispanic families who have fled such violence. These law-abiding immigrants sought refuge in the United States to escape the very criminals Mr. Trump is working tirelessly to remove. This action dismantles dangerous organizations, ensuring that Hispanic communities can thrive free from fear while countering the media narrative that enforcement unfairly targets immigrants.
Mr. Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance understand that border security extends beyond stopping illegal immigration; it is about preventing dangerous criminal networks from infiltrating neighborhoods. Their “America First” approach includes expanding the physical border wall, enhancing surveillance, and deploying more Border Patrol agents to keep gangs from entering the U.S. and preying on vulnerable populations.
This strategy directly benefits Hispanic families, who often bear the brunt of the chaos caused by open borders. Legal immigrants deserve to live in safe, stable communities free from the threat of gang violence and trafficking. The Trump-Vance administration has shown its commitment to delivering that security.
The border crisis has also unleashed a human trafficking epidemic. Under the Biden-Harris administration, hundreds of thousands of children were trafficked, exploited, lost and sold in a system that has failed to protect them. More than 350,000 children disappeared during Mr. Biden’s tenure — a devastating statistic reflecting gross negligence.
The Trump-Vance administration has acted decisively to address this humanitarian catastrophe. It is strengthening law enforcement partnerships to locate missing children, reunite families and dismantle the networks profiting from their exploitation. Agencies such as the Departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services, which failed under Secretaries Alejandro Mayorkas and Xavier Becerra, will face accountability for their roles in this crisis.
Tom Homan, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and current “border czar,” plays a key role in restoring order. Under his leadership, the federal government is dismantling criminal networks and arresting traffickers, protecting countless lives. His expertise and unwavering commitment to enforcing immigration laws have so far made an enormous impact on the Trump-Vance administration’s fight against illegal immigration and organized crime.
Mr. Homan’s example underscores the importance of principled leadership in ensuring that America remains a nation of law and order. His work demonstrates the critical role of strong enforcement policies in safeguarding communities and supporting legal immigrants who contribute positively to our society.
While the Trump-Vance approach is tough on criminals, it recognizes the importance of protecting law-abiding immigrants. Hispanic families deserve to live their American dream without the fear of violent gangs or the chaos of an open border. The Trump-Vance administration will create safer, stronger communities for everyone by focusing on border security.
A secure border benefits all Americans, but it is especially critical for Hispanic families who often face the direct consequences of ineffective border policies. With these reforms, Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance will ensure that immigration is fair, legal and orderly, fostering trust and opportunity for all.
By drawing on the expertise of leaders like Mr. Homan and implementing bold reforms, America will once again become a nation where everyone, regardless of their background, can live safely and with dignity.
