American voters who elected Donald Trump have done a good dead — a “mitzvah” in Hebrew — for the people of Israel.

Israelis were unabashedly fearful of a Kamala Harris presidency, and with good reason. Instead of showing her solid support of Israel, Ms. Harris has been dismissive of Israel’s prime minister, supportive of those who call for the annihilation of the Jewish state and, even more dangerously, has casually remarked that she would consider an arms embargo against Israel. Ms. Harris has coddled antisemites who have so outrageously threatened and bullied Jewish college students.

Mr. Trump, on the other hand, has promised Jewish voters that he would be the best friend they ever had in the White House. Already, his first Cabinet appointees include long-term advocates for the sovereignty of Israel, such as Rep. Elise Stefanik, Sen. Marco Rubio and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

We can hope and pray that this mitzvah will bring some comfort to the long-suffering people of Israel, and that it has planted a seed for a blossoming of peace in the Middle East.
