OPINION:
Perhaps proponents of sanctuary cities are teeing up a strategy that will be as self-destructive to their political careers as their policies have been to the American people (“Migrant crime, violence in cities expected to be the focus for Trump’s new prosecutors,” web, Nov. 14).
It should be interesting to watch sanctuary city leaders welcome all the illegal Venezuelan and MS-13 gang members who will be seeking refuge from Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the coming years as the Trump administration rounds them up for deportation. It will be a master class in how going “woke” blinds people to obvious threats to their own welfare and safety.
Oh, sure, going “woke” makes people feel virtuous and even self-righteous. The “woke” even get to call their critics bad names for pointing out the dangers inherent to their policies.
But as ICE gathers up and sends criminally involved illegals back home, sit back and watch as sanctuary city leaders defying the Trump administration allow their cities to become dangerous no-go zones. And then let’s see how that works out for them come election time.
