According to Charles Hurt’s recent commentary piece about former Rep. Matt Gaetz’s nomination for attorney general, Mr. Gaetz “will prosecute the Washington establishment as zealously and relentlessly as they have abused American taxpayers” (“Washington’s perfect villain: Gaetz takes on the swamp,” web, Nov. 18).

That’s a goal we desperately need to meet, but I am doubtful Mr. Gaetz will be the one to meet it. The Senate won’t confirm him to the Cabinet position because he carries too much baggage. Not only did he lead a few other rogue GOP House members in dumping Kevin McCarthy as House speaker last year, but he is apparently infected with sleaze disease, too.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for health and human services secretary, should note (perhaps with relief) that there is no vaccine to protect against this particular malady.

Allegations oozing from the House panel investigating Mr. Gaetz’s prurient interests may soon be confirmed if the report is released.

Regardless, surely Mr. Trump can find someone else who matches Mr. Gaetz’s junkyard-dog zeal as a prosecutor.
