OPINION:
Talk about hitting the ground running. Since Donald Trump won the presidential election, I already see important improvements in America, the Middle East and East Asia.
Domestically, more college students are singing the national anthem, and fewer seem to be chanting divisive slogans. Racial tensions are reduced. Patriotism has increased among young adults.
In the Middle East, Mr. Trump’s support for Israel and disapproval of terrorism have encouraged the Israelis as well as Arabs in the Gulf states interested in peace, economic growth and prosperity. An example can be seen in the recent action of Qatar, which has kicked Hamas out. I believe Mr. Trump had a lot to do with this change.
In East Asia, Mr. Trump’s arrival as a key player in that part of the world could provide China with a good reason for not attacking Taiwan.
I believe that Mr. Trump has learned a lot from his previous experience as president and is working feverishly with his staff to quickly accomplish what he promised in his campaign.
That includes what some call ending the “war on fossil fuels.” Increased drilling and petroleum production will lower the cost of gasoline and other petroleum-based products. It will also increase employment opportunities and significantly lower inflation.
With regard to the military and other government personnel issues, the merit system will be reimposed. Affirmative action will be disregarded and ability, competence, knowledge and experience will be crucial.
I also give the president-elect great credit for reaching out to Israel and appointing Cabinet appointees who are friendly to the Jewish state. This strong support is a major step toward regional peace.
