“Republicans hit brakes on Trump demand for speedy recess appointments” (web, Nov. 15) reminds me of one of my father’s favorite expressions: “Some people just can’t stand prosperity.”

The American voting public overwhelmingly awarded the Republican Party a trifecta, something rarely enjoyed by the party. In response to this prosperity, some members of the incoming president’s own party in the Senate are seeking to defeat some of his Cabinet choices.

Suppose Democrats had won a trifecta in the recent elections. Does anyone think for a moment that any member of the Democratic Party would be challenging any of Kamala Harris’ Cabinet picks?
