The Washington Commanders’ name remains a hot topic two years after the team rebranded under former owner Dan Snyder. Marjorie Harris, the wife of current owner Josh Harris, weighed in on Wednesday.
“Quite frankly, I had a whole day out in the community, and I kept referring to the team as the Commanders,” Marjorie Harris told The Athletic’s Ben Standig. “And you know what? Sounds pretty good to me. So, for now, it’s the Commanders.”
The team’s name appeared in headlines again this week after The Washington Post published a poll where 58% of Commander fans said they hate or dislike the name.
Only 16% of the team’s local supporters believed the name should stay, while most fans wanted another rebrand.
“Everybody has an opinion about the name. Some good, some bad, some in the middle,” Marjorie Harris said. “I think that we have a lot of work to do, and so that name issue is going to be on the side for now until we can get things going.”
As chairwoman of the Commanders Charitable Foundation, Marjorie Harris led players and team employees on a day of service Wednesday. The group, which included rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, visited the National Children’s Hospital and led a football skills clinic at H.D. Woodson High School.
