The Washington Commanders are keeping offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas, who has agreed to a one-year contract.
Tuesday’s reported deal will be worth up to $4 million.
The 32-year-old has spent four seasons with the Commanders, mostly filling in for injured offensive linemen. He started four games in 2023.
New general manager Adam Peters has focused on the offensive line in free agency. Last season, the offense allowed a league-leading 65 sacks. The team released starting left tackle Charles Leno Jr. but added center Tyler Biadasz and guard Nick Allegretti.
With Leno’s departure, Lucas has a path toward joining the starting lineup in 2024. The Kansas State product has appeared in 115 career games, accumulating 47 starts across 10 seasons.
