All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner plans to sign with the Washington Commanders, adding a veteran presence to the young roster.
The one-year deal is worth up to $8.5 million, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
The 33-year-old has played 11 of his 12 NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. The deal will reunite Wagner with coach Dan Quinn, who worked as Seattle’s defensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014.
In 2023, the nine-time Pro Bowler recorded 183 total tackles across 17 regular season games.
On social media, the long-time Seahawk bid farewell to the West Coast.
“Seattle, we’ve done this before,” he wrote, referencing his one season with the Los Angeles Rams. “You know what it is. It’s always love. Until we meet again.”
Wagner is the latest in a flurry of free-agent moves for the Commanders, who have added 13 players during this week’s negotiating period.
On Wednesday, the Commanders also agreed to a fresh deal with Jeremy Reaves, a 2022 Pro Bowl selection for his work on special teams. The two-year contract keeps the 27-year-old fan favorite from departing in free agency.
Washington’s front office also brought in long snapper Tyler Ott, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, on a three-year deal, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reported.
In other NFL moves on Wednesday:
Tennessee Titans: Wide receiver Calvin Ridley will join the Tennessee Titans this season. The former Jacksonville Jaguar agreed to a four-year, $92 million contract, NFL.com said. The deal includes $50 million in guarantees.
Las Vegas Raiders: The Raiders released two former starters on Wednesday: Quarterback Jimmy Garropolo and receiver Hunter Renfrow. The moves will save the team $19 million in cap space, according to ESPN.
Los Angeles Chargers: The Chargers released wide receiver Mike Williams Wednesday, freeing some much-needed cap space for the team’s new coach and general manager. The move will save the organization $20 million in 2024, according to Over The Cap.
New York Jets: Former Washington offensive tackle Morgan Moses is on the move again. The Jets are acquiring from the Ravens in a trade that includes draft picks for both teams. The move reunites Moses with the Jets after he spent the 2021 season with New York. The Jets will also receive the Ravens’ fourth-round pick (No. 134 overall) and New York will send its fourth-rounder (No. 112) and a sixth-rounder to Baltimore.
