The Washington Commanders have made their first move in free agency. The team has agreed to terms with Dallas Cowboys’ edge rusher Dorance Armstrong, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.Â
The agreement will reunite Armstrong with coach Dan Quinn as the pair worked together for three seasons in Dallas.Â
With the Commanders, the 26-year-old defender will look to cement a regular starting role for the first time in his six-year career. Over the past two seasons, the Kansas product started six games and recorded 16 sacks as a pass rusher.Â
The NFL’s tampering period began at noon on Monday, allowing free agents to negotiate with teams. Deals can not be finalized until the new league year begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.Â
The Commanders opened free agency with a league-leading $91.5 million in cap space. New general manager Adam Peters has the flexibility to be aggressive in free agency to boost a roster with holes at edge rusher, offensive line, and in the secondary.Â
