New Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is filling out his staff.

Joe Whitt Jr. will be the new defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, the team announced Monday.

For the last three seasons, Whitt worked as the secondary coach and pass game coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. Whitt worked under Quinn in Dallas and with the Atlanta Falcons in 2020.

This offseason, Whitt interviewed with the Cowboys to fill their vacant defensive coordinator after Quinn’s departure. He chose to follow his old boss to Washington instead.

Whitt has also worked as a defensive coach with the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers.

With Whitt’s hiring, the Commanders have filled both coordinator positions. On Sunday night, the franchise hired Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinator. Kingsbury spent the 2023 season as an offensive analyst at the University of Southern California. He previously served as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 through 2022.
