As the Austrian American educator and author Peter Drucker said: “Efficiency is doing the thing right. Effectiveness is doing the right thing.”

President-elect Donald Trump is focusing on efficiency (“Social media raises profile of mission to cut bureaucracy,” web, Dec. 3).

Congress should use its constitutional power to require every government agency to prepare annual reports by congressional district. These should be available on the website of every representative so that constituents know what is happening in their immediate community and can vote wisely every two years.

Only then can “We the People” do our constitutional duty.

In the last election, the top two presidential candidates were separated by 2.9 million votes. Nineteen million living veterans have the voting power to force Congress to make effectiveness complement the executive branch’s focus on efficiency.

There’s no need to join political parties, pay dues or donate; just honor our oath to “defend … the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

Americans, vote only for candidates who — by word and deed both — have supported and defended the Constitution against domestic enemies who clamor for inefficiency and ineffectiveness.
