Ask any American who follows politics to name the worst president in U.S. history and invariably, Jimmy Carter’s name comes to mind.
But that’s not entirely true — at least, not any more. Joe Biden is much, much, much worse.
Besides, Carter did some things that were good for America.
So says historian and best-selling author Craig Shirley. But like anyone taking a look back on history to discern the truth, it’s important to consider context — and one certain truth about Carter is that he was no Ronald Reagan.
Shirley says, “Do times make the man or does the times make the man? Reagan made his times.
Jimmy Carter was made by his times. He was overwhelmed by the events of the late 70s and didn’t define them. He was simply overwhelmed by them.”
It comes down to strength in leadership — and Carter, while a seemingly charitable and good man, was no strong leader.
