A pair of familiar faces will return to Nationals Park next spring. The franchise agreed to deals with first baseman Josh Bell and pitcher Trevor Williams on Sunday, according to multiple reports.
Williams reportedly signed a two-year, $13 million contract, while Bell agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal.
The pair of 32-year-olds project to provide a veteran presence for a Nationals clubhouse that features an array of young stars, including the outfield trio of Jacob Young, James Wood and Dylan Crews.
The Nationals had already traded for first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, so Bell will likely slot into the designated hitter role in Washington’s lineup. He slugged 19 home runs and 71 RBIs for the Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks last season.
Bell won a Silver Slugger award in 2022 when the Nationals shipped him to the San Diego Padres with Juan Soto in a blockbuster trade that brought Wood, pitcher Mackenzie Gore, and shortstop C.J. Abrams to the District.
Williams maintained a team-best 2.03 ERA in 13 starts with Washington last season, though a flexor muscle strain sidelined him from May to September.
