OPINION:
I loved Cheryl Chumley’s “Democrats simply cannot be trusted” (web, Nov. 29), but we already know. We’ve known it since the Johnson administration.
It’s not like Republicans haven’t thrown in a few whoppers themselves: Richard Nixon’s self-destruction, George H.W. Bush’s “no new taxes” tax increase, George W. Bush’s weapons of mass destruction fiasco and many things about Donald Trump.
But every Democratic presidency, except for some of the Clinton years, has meant a disastrous, persistent and deliberate eroding of American culture, lifestyle, economy, values and society in general. I know this because I was once a Democrat.
Unfortunately, knowing this has not kept tens of millions of Americans from inflicting the Democrats’ injurious governance upon us. They are like a wrecking ball swinging back and forth against the side of the a building.
When it hits, like it did under President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, we shudder and say, this is really, really bad! Then, while the ball is swinging the other way, we say, “It’s harmless now that it’s way over there,” and we ignore it — until it returns, as it always does under the Democrats.
