Bomb threats targeting schools, landmarks reported across D.C. metro area

D.C. police said they investigated a bomb threat in Southeast over the weekend, the latest in a series of such threats that have targeted schools, landmarks and a house of worship across the national capital region.

Authorities said a bomb threat at the Capitol View Library was reported just before 11 a.m. Saturday. No additional information is available about the threat.

Officials at Arlington National Cemetery reported a bomb threat Friday morning.

Funeral services and visitation to the military cemetery were temporarily halted while police swept the facility. Authorities later gave the all-clear after no explosive devices were found.

Late last month, the National Zoo was evacuated due to a bomb threat. The zoo reopened a day later on Aug. 30 after D.C. police found no evidence of explosives.

WDVM-TV reported a bomb threat at John F. Kennedy High School in Wheaton-Glenmont on Aug. 29, the same day as the threat at the National Zoo. The threat also turned out to be a false alarm.  

The station also reported on bomb threats at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda and Bullis School in Potomac on Aug. 18 and Aug. 22, respectively. 

The Council of American-Islamic Relations said a bomb threat targeted the Masjid Muhammad mosque in Northwest on Aug. 18. Police found no explosives at the mosque during a search.
