Our northern neighbor and closest ally is not the same Canada that welcomed Vietnam War draft dodgers (“Canadian truckers defy PM Trudeau, remain entrenched in Ottawa,” Web, Feb. 16). Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who once said that he would protect Canadians and believed in peaceful protests, has dramatically done a 180-degree turn with his authoritarian crackdown on truckers. Trudeau’s tyrannical backlash is no longer about preventing the spread of COVID-19. His actions are those of an unadulterated, bona fide power grab. In essence, Trudeau is chipping away at the freedom which Canadians used to enjoy — under the guise of “protecting the country.”
