There is a better way to spend $80 billion in additional funding for the Internal Revenue Service, including hiring 87,000 new agents (“Expanded IRS free-file system one step closer in Dems’ bill,” Web, Aug. 13). Assign these dollars to the federal General Accounting Office or U.S. Customs and Border Protection instead.

This would give the GAO more resources to look into how much of the trillions spent annually under various federal agencies and programs (including COVID-19 relief) are lost to waste, fraud and/or abuse. It would give CBP more resources to deal with the over 2 million illegal immigrants coming into our nation in 2022.
