TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi airport has hired a new executive director who has worked for other airports for 15 years.
Joseph Wheeler will begin his new job April 1 at Tupelo Regional Airport, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported.
He is currently airport director for the Greater Lafourche Port Commission in Galliano, Louisiana.
The Tupelo Airport Authority board voted Thursday to hire Wheeler. He will succeed Cliff Nash, who retired in January after more than five years with the Tupelo airport.
Wheeler said he wants to get “some flight instruction going on out here.”
“We’ve got a bunch of military pilots here who have the Montgomery GI Bill, but have nowhere local where they can use that bill for flight training,” he said. “So, that’s one of the things I’ve really identified that I want to get going.”
