PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) - Ron Clark, a former city editor at The Paducah Sun, has died, the newspaper said. He was 72.
Clark, who also worked as a sports writer and regional editor at The Sun, died Tuesday in Mayfield.
He was a graduate of Murray State University, where he received a degree in journalism. He began working for the newspaper on Christmas Eve 1971 and continued until his retirement in 2015.
Bill Bartleman, who was hired as a reporter for The Sun two weeks after Clark, said that because Clark was behind the scenes, people probably didn’t know about his work.
“He always made sure our stories were accurate, that they were well-sourced,” he said. “He made us be accountable for what we were writing.”
Paducah Sun General Manager Matt Jones said that Clark was an outstanding copy editor.
“Ron always had the respect of those who reported to him, and he did an outstanding job of coaching and counseling them,” he said. “When you think of a professional journalist, Ron Clark’s name rises to the top of the list.”
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Hicks Clark.
